REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals) Are you aware that on the 1st of June 2007 the REACH Regulation replaces over 40 current European Union Directives and will be enforceable?
Published in the Official Journal on the 30th of December 2006 the REACH Regulation has caused a storm within the consumer products industry with many question being asked about how, when and if it effects your business and what changes, if any, you need to make to ensure compliance.
The first question many people have asked is why has REACH been introduced? The answer is simple; The European Union is acting to protect the environment and the health of individuals whilst promoting the use and development of green chemicals. The objective of REACH is to regulate the use of chemicals used in the supply chain.
Everyone is concerned as to whether the regulation effects their business and the costs associated with compliance. Quite simply, if you are an importer or a manufacturer of product you are required to register chemical substances used in the construction of your product. (A threshold limit of 1 tonne per annum has been set).
To help you understand the regulations and how they affect your business, STR’s team of environmental and chemical professionals are at hand to work with you and assist in the development of your REACH strategy.
